U4C Fitness has a single mission: To bring U-Cups™ to all home gym owners.

Friends and Neighbors:

U4C Fitness was founded in Austin, Texas by Matt Struve and Mike Gulla who have been friends and neighbors since 2019. When the Covid lockdowns began in March 2020, going to the gym was no longer an option. Like so many other fitness enthusiasts, Matt decided to build a home gym in one of his garage stalls.

The Calf Problem:

The garage stall was big enough to fit all the exercise equipment needed for targeting every muscle group, however, when it came to training calves, there wasn’t enough space to add a standing or seated calf machine or smith machine. The only option was to use dumbbells which didn’t offer much of a challenge in terms of load.

The Balance Problem:

They realized using a barbell would be the only way to increase load. It only took a few attempts to conclude it was too dangerous due to loss of balance. At this point they assumed there had to be some sort of rack attachment out there for standing calf raises. After an exhaustive search, they found nothing.

The Prototype:

Determined to solve the problem, Matt came up with an idea; an attachment (similar to a J-cup) with a long front-bracket that provides a U-shaped chamber to prevent tipping backward. Mike, being an avid wood hobbyist, created a prototype from wood and the first version of a “U-Cup” was born, and it worked perfectly.

Evolution to Today:

Two years later, their utility patent was approved, a production worthy design was finalized and relationships with Texas manufacturers and fulfillment services were established. In October 2023 the website went live after the first production run of 500 sets was completed and ready to ship.

Moving forward:

U4C Fitness™ is 100% self funded and as such all profit from the first batch will be reallocated into the next (larger) production run. This time with 1” pins. We are also getting ready to release a new design for a calf raise block.

Ultimate goal:

Our mission is to introduce U-Cups™ to every rack owner and to prove that free-weight standing calf raises with a barbell is one of the best exercises you can do to grow your calves.

We believe in supporting local economies.

Other countries may sell steel and plastic for less, but it’s cheaper quality. You get what you pay for. Unlike other companies, we got the memo, and are proud to say U-Cups are 100% American. Every aspect is sourced and manufactured in Texas.
